Villa Maria is a 2 storey private house to rent, furnished to a high standard. Not far from the port, with not many steps to climb. In a private walled garden adjacent to the house there is a large swimming pool and terrace. The house is divided into two self contained apartments that can be used seperately, but which communicate with an internal staircase and a trap door. Outside you will find plenty of comfortable outdoor furniture and a large traditional fourno for BBQ dinners under the stars. <b><u>Accommodation</u></b> • Pool Apartment consists of a large room that is set up with a comfortable living area to the front and stairs lead up to a double bedroom. Pool Apartment has been carved out of the mountain side so is very cool in the summer as well as creating a unique atmosphere. The kitchen and bathroom are to the side of the main living/bedroom. The kitchen is particularly well equipped with a full sized oven/hob with extractor fan and a larder fridge/freezer. The shower room has been attractively created with part of the rock face forming the back wall of the shower. It's a bit like showering in a waterfall! There is a small staircase, closed with a trap door, at the back of the kitchen, which connects the Pool Apartment with The Pool House above. A stunning three bed roomed 19th century traditional house with garden, close to the port. With absolutely no steps to climb, Xelidonia house is just a minute or two from the port of Hydra, on a quiet side street, close to shops and to one of the best tavernas on the island - the world famous 'Xeri Elia'. This is a beautiful home that has been lovingly restored by the owners, and which offers very comfortable accommodation for up to six people, plus occasional guests. The house has a very private garden with trees and shrubs, and plenty of space to dine al fresco. The entrance hall - passing through the double front door, one is struck by the cool, serene atmosphere that pervades throughout the house. The lofty ceilings, dark red floor tiles, arches and white walls really exemplifies the taste of the owners, who preserve the house in very much the same style as intended in the 19th century, The dining room & kitchen feature many of the original 19th Century facilities including the original bread oven, shallow marble sinks and tiling. Apart from the owners family and guests, Xelidonia is also the seasonal home to a family of swallows (Xelidonia in Greek) from which the house takes its name, who have built their nest in a corner below the ceiling of the loggia. The owners tell wonderful stories of the pleasant times they spend, watching the parent birds refurbishing their nest and bringing up their young. The winter sitting room is cosy and ideal for off season mornings and evenings when you can relax in front of the wood burning, traditional fireplace. There are plenty of books, board games and cards that you are welcome to use during your stay. The second bedroom is minimalistic in white, with a large, comfortable double bed. The room opens onto a very private terrace overgrown with Bougainvillia, which makes it ideal for a couple who want a bit of time together on their own. With 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with showers, it comfortably sleeps up to 10 (2 double beds, 6 singles). Ideally situated at equal distance between Hydra and Kamini (8 minutes gentle walk each side), it has lovely views on sea, village and valley to Vlichos and is not too high. It is also conveniently close to three grocery shops. Decorated with delightful colours, original artwork and antique furniture, Siran House has two entrances from the street, a walled garden, a patio, and two terraces perfect for eating outside, relaxing and entertaining guests. Siran house is divided into three buildings: the main house, offers a large kitchen / dining room fitted with modern facilities and a big and bright living room which opens on both terraces through French windows. On the same level, the eastern building offers 2 bedrooms (with an en-suite bathroom they share) that directly open onto one of the terraces. The western building, on the lower level, offers 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (one en-suite with a master bedroom). The repartition of bedrooms on both sides of the property allows privacy for everyone. All bedrooms are air-conditioned and fitted with large wardrobes. There is plenty of linen and towels, including beach towels. We provide weekly maid service as part of the rental fee. More frequent service can be organized for an additional fee. As your hosts, we are eager to make your arrival as easy as we can. As part of the rental fee, a donkey man will meet you at the port as you arrive to transport your luggage and escort you to the property, where our house keeper will meet you, give you the keys and show you around the house. The kitchen will be stocked with some drinking water and enough to make an arrival ?en-cas?. You will also find an English / French ?Siran and Hydra Insiders?s Guide? for a better use of the house and the island, written out of our personal experience of living in Hydra, with many suggestions and useful telephone numbers. Please bear in mind that visitors to Hydra are required to climb stairs, so Siran House is not suitable for anyone unable to do so. Families with young children need also to have in mind the terraces and the stairs: your children?s safety is your responsibility.
