hotel In 1960 Jerasimos Patronikolas and his wife Kaliroi Onassis [sister of the renowned Aristotelis Onasis ] bought from the old Corfiot family Myrtiloy ,an olive hain of 50000 sq.m stretching along tne seaside. There, within the olive trees, which are older than 400 years they built the Miramare Hotel. With respect to nature they enriched the surrounding area with flowers and other plants and the hotel together with the whole area is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Greece .A virtual miracle, as its name says. The inauguration took place under great publicity and among the guests was the then Prime Minister of Greece, Konstantinos Karamanlis. The Miramare belonged to the luxury hotels of the time and its guests used to eat with silver cutlery. Ex King Konstantinos of Glucksburg entrusted the hotel and its cuisine the reception of his guests. The chef de cuisine of that time often cooked in the palace for the royal family. For many years the hotel was managed by the Swiss firm Gauer and the majority of the guests were of higher social and financial status. At that time, the Commander of the 6 American fleet chose the Miramare for a few days of tranquility, rest, beauty and luxury. Many important personalities of political life of the time such as Andreas Papandreou the for many years Greek Prime Minister-the President of the Greek Parliament, Ioannis Alevras, the President of Greek Democracy, Christos Sartzetakis, as well as foreign personalities like Jimmy Carter, Felippe Gonzales, Mario Suarez all spent unforgettable holidays in the Miramare. In 1994 the hotel was taken over by the group of Sourlas brothers. Under their management, the hotel has been substantially renovated with great care and affection without regard to cost.All facilities and rooms of the hotel were entirely renovated. Two unique swimming and tennis courts are just a part of the additions made, and in general the hotel was brought up to today’s standards, a modern and timely facility with respect to natural and tradition. In 2002, the Sourlas brothers decided to expand the hotel, and in a land of 25.000sq.m they built the Miramare Park which started operating in July 2004. This new part of the Hotel complex consists of 98 rooms, of which 72 are double/triple rooms, 10 are specially made for disabled persons and 10 to host honeymooners. Two conference halls were in this new building, one, being 320sq.m[200-300persons] and the other, being 81sq.m [60-70 persons] Moreover, there are two bars, one main bar with a terrace offering a lounge and a bar next to the Olympic sized pool which has an amphitheatre around it. More additions include a new tennis court with artificial grass and a Health Beauty Spa with heated pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, hammam, massage and a complete gym and relaxing area. Thus , with the addition of Miramare Park the full hotel capacity increased to 250 rooms offering five types of accommodation. 153 double/triple rooms , 28 bungalows,26 superior double/triple rooms and VIP cottages and 41 family rooms.
